Another red umbrella version on Monument Circle in Indianapolis.
My “Red Umbrella” series was born about 5 years ago, when I was preparing for a big show and was scurrying around the city, painting on location and collecting reference material. One of these days I stopped my car by LS Ayres building: it was raining. A woman walked by and then a man with red umbrella. In my first few paintings it was only a woman under red umbrella. Then I was commissioned by someone to put a couple under red umbrella: South of Meridian and LS Ayres clock had special meaning to them. That’s how a couple under red umbrella came to life.
Nevertheless, Red Umbrella on South Meridian is my most popular image that I keep painting, changing composition of the people and exploring further water media. It is a perfect subject for that.
